Tina and I thought it would be good to write out some prayer requests for our children as they look forward to the coming school year. Here are some things that we would like to see God do in their lives. How are you praying for your children? What would you add to this list?
1 Seek out and cultivate the best possible friendships
- A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. (Pro 17:17)
- A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. (Pro 12:26)
2 Minister grace to others rather than tear down
- Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. (Eph 4:29 ESV)
- “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. (Mat 5:14)
3 Appreciate that “all truth is God’s truth”
- In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Gen 1:1)
- The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it (Psa 24:1)
4 Be more concerned about God’s will than the opinions and approval of people
- I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God. (1Co 4:3-5)
5 Cast fears, worries, and anxieties upon God because he is sovereign and loving
- Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1Pe 5:7)
- He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all–how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (Rom 8:32)
