“Baptist” and Baptism

"Baptist" refers to our belief that God commands Christians to be baptized. It doesn't mean a certain style of music or worship gathering — you'll find our services put the focus on God in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. It doesn't refer to any organizational ties either. "Baptist" simply means we follow the biblical model for baptism of Christian believers found in the New Testament.

Baptism is both a privilege and a clear example from the New Testament. The Bible is clear that baptism doesn't save us from sin, but it is an important expression of our faith in Jesus Christ — it identifies us with his death, burial, and resurrection. 

At RBC, baptism opens the door for membership in our church. Because God has welcomed us into his family through salvation, we want to get to know you and invite you to join ours. We believe local church membership and commitment is one of God's designs for our welfare and his glory. 

The Greek word "baptize" means to immerse, submerge, or place under. Scripture tells us that when Jesus was baptized, he "came up out of the water" (Mark 1:10). We believe the biblical model for baptism is by immersion. When a person goes under the water, they identify with the death and burial of Jesus. When they come up out of the water, they identify with his resurrection.

Baptism should always follow salvation. An understanding of personal repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ must come first. This is why we don't baptize infants, but practice "believer's baptism." It's important that a child, man, or woman has a personal faith of his or her own before obeying God's command to be baptized.
